A Global View
This year, we are beginning
something new and deeply
meaningful: our participation
in the International Scholar
program, through which we will
welcome Rev. Joby Joy of India
into our church community.
The Christian faith has always
been global in scope, but today that
reality is becoming more visible than ever. While the
church in North America faces challenges of change
and decline, Christianity is growing rapidly in places
like Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Increasingly, the
thought leaders, theologians, and pastors shaping
the future of our faith will come from those parts
of the world. That is something to celebrate—and
something from which we have much to learn.
In my own continued education over the past
few years, I’ve had the privilege of learning from
several global Christian thinkers. Their insights have
opened my eyes to new ways of reading Scripture
and understanding biblical witness—ways that arise
from different cultural experiences, yet deepen the
meaning of our shared faith. These voices have
reminded me that the gospel is both timeless and
expansive, always finding new expression in every
place it is received.
By welcoming Rev. Joy, we are taking a small but
significant step toward that wider understanding.
My prayer is that this partnership will enrich our
appreciation of the worldwide church and renew
our sense of calling here at home, as we remember
that we belong to one body—joined together in
Christ across every culture and continent.

A welcoming and loving community of faith that learns, grows, and serves together
The holiday season is upon us! The air is cooler, our classrooms are cozy,
and the children are brimming with curiosity, creativity, and joy. We’ve loved
watching the magic of fall unfold at Seedlings—from crunchy leaves on the
playground to cozy classroom crafts and giggles that fill our halls.
In the Classroom
Our Seedlings have been exploring all things autumn—counting pumpkins,
painting with fall colors, and learning about kindness and gratitude. We’ve also
started talking about family traditions, celebrations, and the many ways people
share joy around the world this time of year.
It’s been wonderful to see how much independence our little ones are gaining—
zipping jackets, helping friends clean up, and using their words to express
feelings and friendship.
November Happenings
This month is filled with celebration and community!
Throughout November, we’ll focus on gratitude—what it means to share, to
help, and to appreciate all the people who make our lives special.
December Celebrations
December is always a joyful time at Seedlings! We’ll be learning about and
celebrating different holidays from around the world to help children understand
the beauty of diverse traditions.
Here’s what’s coming up:
Hanukkah Exploration – stories, songs, and dreidel games
Winter Solstice Crafts – celebrating light and nature’s changes
Christmas Cheer – tree decorating, cozy story time, and lots of singing
Our classrooms will be filled with music, lights, and laughter as we wrap up the
year together.
With Gratitude
As we move into this season of giving and reflection, our hearts are full. We’re
endlessly thankful for our amazing Seedlings families, our joyful students, and
our dedicated teachers who make every day special.
Wishing you and your family a season filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Welcoming Our International Scholar: Rev. Joby Joy
We are excited to share that our church will be welcoming Rev. Joby Joy as an International Scholar
volunteer this coming year. This program is designed to help congregations like ours meaningfully connect
with the global church by building personal relationships with leaders who bring wisdom and experience
from other parts of the world.
Rev. Joy comes to us from India, where the church is both vibrant and growing in remarkable ways.
His presence among us will be a gift, offering fresh insights into how God is at work in different cultural
contexts and reminding us that the body of Christ is larger and more diverse than we can see on Sunday
mornings.
Rev. Joy joined us in worship on World Communion on October 5 as we celebrated Christ’s table alongside Christians around
the world. Throughout his time here, he will share in the life of our congregation through worship, teaching, and fellowship.
This is a unique opportunity for us not only to extend hospitality but also to listen, learn, and deepen our understanding of
what it means to belong to the global family of faith. We look forward to welcoming Rev. Joy into our community and to the
many ways God will bless us through this new relationship.

JF Kapnek Trust:
Feeding Hope in Zimbabwe
he JF Kapnek Trust, headquartered in
Harare, Zimbabwe, is one of this month’s
recipients of the Christmas Special Offering.
LOPC has had a relationship with Kapnek
for over 20 years, initially helping address
the AIDS/HIV epidemic, and now, supporting
Kapnek’s outreach to health issues related to
AIDS/HIV exposure such as cervical cancer
and TB.
Over time Kapnek’s health related efforts
expanded to include young children. They
reasoned healthy children would do better
in school and be stronger to fight off other health issues. Kapnek’s Early Childhood
Development (ECD) program has become a model envied by those communities
unable to have Kapnek in their regions of the country.
A key component of ECD is the hot meal served to preschool children which LOPC
has helped finance over the past few years. This program provides a fortified
porridge the parents prepare for their children. Kapnek feeds 12,000 children a day
for the cost of $0.03 a child!
In addition to the daily porridge, periodically in the year Kapnek brings government
nurses to the preschools to have health check ups and immunizations if the parents
allow. Since parents must bring the children in for the checkups, they will also bring
their other children so the nurses can do health check ups on everyone. This allows
Kapnek to reach an additional 3,000 children to identify health concerns. The
nurses will see the 6,000 parents who also receive health and nutritional education
at the schools.
Christmas
Special Offering 2025
Feeding Children: Near and Far
n this Season of Giving, cries for help come from all around the world. For those of us with access to health care and
plenty to eat, our hearts ache for the less fortunate, especially the most vulnerable among us: children.
This year’s Christmas Special Offering at LOPC supports two mission partners committed to feeding children, both globally
and locally: the JF Kapnek Trust in Zimbabwe and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano here in the Bay Area.
Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano:
Feeding Our Neighbors
loser to home, one in five children in Contra Costa and Solano counties live
in food-insecure households. The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano,
another of our Christmas Offering recipients, is a critical source of relief, distributing food to more than 275,000 people
every month. The food bank also partners with local schools, community centers, and faith organizations to reach families
with fresh produce, staples, and nutrition education.
Your gift helps children receive the nutrition they need to grow and thrive.
Give the Gift of
Nourishment
Your generosity this Christmas
can change lives, both near
and far. Our goal this Christmas
season is to raise $20,000.
Thank you in advance for your
generosity!
•
$25 helps supply weekend
food packs for a child for
two months.
•
$100 feeds 16 children for
a year.
•
$250 provides fresh
produce to multiple families
for a season.
•
$500 feeds two entire
classrooms for the year.
Donate between December
1–31 by writing “Christmas
Special Offering” in the memo
line of your check or by visiting
lopc.org/specialoffering.
Important unintended benefits to this program are: attendance at Kapnek porridge recipient preschools is 97%, higher
than schools that don’t offer a meal. And, retention and progression to higher grades is at 100%. This effective program
can only continue if non-governmental organizations—such as LOPC—continue to fund this critical program.
